Awareness Through Movement
with Yasmin Feldenkrais Method instructor & Personal Trainer
If you care about your body, are interested in self-exploration, gaining insight and a sense of how your body moves, and developing awareness to effect change, join my class- Awareness Through Movement.
Awareness Through Movement
An important part of The Feldenkrais Method. It is taught as a calming voice guiding a group of students, usually lying on comfortable floor mats, through a series of movements. The movements are slow, gentle, novel and exploratory. Students are taught to direct inner awareness to subtle yet crucial aspects of movements that are nearly impossible to sense in more traditional exercise settings that emphasize speed, strength, and effort.
The Feldenkrais Method is a system for learning an efficient and coordinated movement. Students take lessons for a variety of reasons such as wanting to improve physical comfort, reduce chronic pain, increase performance in sports or dance, and promote self-awareness for personal development.
As you become older your body changes and responds less effectively then it used to (slower, stiffer, more limited and painful). A marked discrepancy grows between the brain that directs and the body that executes. Unconsciously, this uncertainty of control leads to a growing fear. The first reaction the first reaction movements, which causes stiffness, leading to weak muscles' serious balance issues, and loss of confidence.
The class integrates the Feldenkrais Method to create better connection between the brain and the body while strengthening the muscles that keeping the body upright. When you develop awareness, explore using a wide variety of movements increase the range of motion, and acquire better insight of your body, you can achieve better and safer responses of your body in daily activities.
During the years of teaching the Method and my experience as a personal trainer, I developed lessons designed especially for aging to counteract the changes the are experiencing. Considering the group pace, I guide my students to get better mobility, to regain their center, to develop awareness of their body and it's reaction, and develop confidence in their ability to redirect their body
Every person is unique; every life is unique. In the course of life we
develop habits; we live in a certain lifestyle; we may experience
trauma or serious health issues; we try to cope with the changes of
aging. All these experiences influence our bodies and differentiate us
Unique and individual as each one of us is, we all require a
cardiovascular system that efficiently provides oxygen to the body,
and we all need muscles that keep us upright, mobile, balanced, and
efficient, muscles that allow us to do the things we like and enjoy.
As an experienced personal trainer and certified Feldenkrais
instructor, I have worked mostly with the retired population in the last
15 years. I feel blessed to meet people with so many diverse life
experiences. I love the challenge of finding the way for each person
to connect and be aware of their body while safely strengthening and
developing the necessary muscles and pushing the heart to work.
